Students will use loose parts such as these wooden sticks to create shapes. As the students are doing this, I will ask questions such as "Tell me about what you created" to get the student's viewpoints on what they created out of this material. Students will use the "Think, Pair, Share" thinking method. Each thinking and creating their own shape then pairing up with someone to share their shape. During this sharing time, I will ask more open-ended questions such as "What differences do you see?" They will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of shapes and how they are made and classified while using materials they would not normally use in the classroom to keep their creativity engaged.

While watching the 2D shape song video, students will finger-paint as many different 2D shapes as they can think of. This will inspire the students to think of all the 2D shapes they know of. After we have finished the video and they finished their paintings. I will ask questions like "What shapes have you created?" "Did everyone create all the same shapes?" This will lead to a conversation about the characteristics of 2D shapes, where I will ask "What is the main way we can tell apart 2D and 3D shapes?" Knowing more about these 2D shapes during this playful learning activity will allow students to be able to correctly sort the dimensional shapes.

Students will use kinetic sand to make 3D shapes. This will allow the kid's sensory interests to be inspired so they can see the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. As they make these shapes the students will use the Connect, Extend, Challenge thinking to compare the 2D and 3D shapes they have been creating in their different playful learning experiences. Making these 3D shapes out of a fun sensory activating material will lead students to have a better understanding of what makes a 3D shape a 3D shape. Asking open-ended questions through this "What do you see is different with these shapes?" "What is different with this material compared to the others one we have used?"
