Chapter 8: " Fancy thinking the beast was something you could hunt and kill!" said the head." This is important because it shows how the boys kept using their imagination and said that the beast was this and that, but it was all in their minds. It was their other side.
Chapter 9: "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!" The blue-white scar was constant, the noise unendurable. Simon was crying out something about a dead man on a hill." This is important because it shows how the boys have turned over completely to savagery. It's also important because later on, Simon dies and no one knows because they are too caught up in the dance and their savage mind to even notice.

" It was crying out against the abominable noise, something about a body on the hill… At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore" (9). This quote is significant because when Simon is murdered all of the boys think that he is the beast. They kill together, and no one can stop it from happening. Simon tries to tell them the truth, that they (all of the boys, all humans) are the beast but they turn on him.

One quote that stood out to me was, “Without a smoke signal we'll die here” - Piggy. This quote is significant because it shows the theme of survival. I know this because the boys are using the flame as a signal for anyone nearby to come and rescue them. Piggy is saying that without the flame there's no way they'll make it out alive.

You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you?" This quote is important because it shows how the beast is a figment of their imagination.
Chapter 9. "So they had shifted camp then, away from the beast. As Simon thought this, he turned to the poor broken thing that sat stinking by his side. The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible." this quote is important because the conflict of the beast. The only person that knows about the beast is dead, so the imaginary beast lives on in their heads.

"At last Simon gave up and looked back; saw the white teeth and dim eyes, the blood – and his gaze was held by that ancient, inescapable recognition." This quote represents how Simon realizes the beast is just an intimate idea, and how the boys represent the beast within each other.
