On January 1879, he built his first incandescent electric light, which was a failure. He tested thousands of materials to light up the lamp, which he mentioned, “ I tested no fewer than 6000 vegetable growths.” After 15 hours of failing, the filament finally burned out, marking his success. After many failures, he was not discouraged, and he kept clinging on his dream. Therefore, his hard work and perseverance helped him to be remembered till now for his contributions.

Maya Angelo was an African-American award winning poet and civil rights activist.  In 1993 Maya Angelo cited the poem On the Pulse of Morning,"  for president Bill Clinton. At the time she was recognized as the first inaugural poet in the United States.  During her career my Angelo continuously use diligence and persistence to reach her audience and to make her voice be heard. For all her hard work she was awarded the National Medal of Artsx, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom .
