This is series of images of some small paper sculptures i created to experiment with various techniques and explore potential directions for my project. One of the pieces, the one that's Saturn-shaped, was particularly challenging; creating a spherical form from glued strips required meticulous alignment and patience to achieve a somewhat spherical shape. Adding the ring added further frustration, needing careful positioning to maintain balance. However, I found myself disappointed with the final outcome, as it didn’t fully satisfy or capture what I had initially envisioned.

However, the other two sculptures required a much simpler technique, primarily achieved through folding rather than constructing and gluing, and came together with greater ease. The sculptures served as an exploration of structural techniques, clarifying which methods might be most effective in future designs. I also used playful colourful lighting to exaggerate the folds and shadows in my sculptures for a more aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Peter Kennard is a British artist who was born in 1949 and renowned for his photomontages that highlight themes of revolution, anti-war sentiment, and social critique. He's inspired by the 1930s photomontage styles of John Heartfield. Kennard's work confronts issues like nuclear disarmament and militarization. His iconic piece Broken Missile (1980) symbolically dismantles weapons of war, illustrating a call for change. Another work, Haywain with Cruise Missiles (1980), reimagines John Constable’s The Hay Wain by overlaying missile launchers, revolutionizing the idyllic British countryside into a form of military presence. Kennard's collaborations with activist movements, like CND and Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp, solidify his position as a key figure in revolutionary art, challenging political norms and inspiring activism through his imagery.

It is so called because it combines the crosses of the three countries united under one sovereign - the kingdoms of England and Wales, of Scotland and Ireland.

By me changing the blue colour in the Union Jack flag to black can be seen as a bold political statement because the colours in flags often carry symbolic meaning. By using black I am communicating protest and anarchy - as the colour is often associated with resistance, defiance and anarchism. In the political context, black flags can symbolise opposition to established authority and is supposed to signal my discontent with the government and calls for revolution as well as my rejection of the values represented by them. I’m also trying to replace the unity the blue represents as a statement that illustrates how the government is no longer serving the people.

Jamie Reid (1947-2023) was a British artist best known for his iconic artwork, especially his designs for the Sex Pistols in the 1970s. His art also connects to revolution through its bold challenge to authority and societal norms. His punk-inspired designs, like the defaced image of Queen Elizabeth II on the "God Save the Queen" single, used provocative imagery to question the monarchy and capitalism. Reid's style features cut-out newspaper letters, collage techniques, and bold anti-establishment messages.

He was heavily influenced by anarchism and using his art to challenge authority, the monarchy, and capitalist society. His defaced images of Queen Elizabeth II and the use of symbols like safety pins and the Union Jack became powerful symbols of punk’s defiance.

My opinion on the task to generate ideas and images with AI was that I find it conflicting due to the fact that using AI to generate art is a very controversial topic. On the positive side, it allows for rapid creation, exploration of new styles, and accessibility to non-artists, expanding creativity. AI can also assist artists by generating quick ideas or speeding up repetitive tasks. However, there are concerns about the lack of human touch, originality, and creativity in AI generated artwork. There are ethical issues such as copyright infringement and job displacement for traditional artists. The entire debate is based on the argument of balancing AI’s creative potential with preserving artistic authenticity. Overall I think AIs usage should be utilised and best suited for other industrys, and simply used as a search engine.

He also contributed to the Forgotten Realms and Oriental Adventures lines of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Cyberpunk 2077 had its own original net animation (ONA) miniseries based on the video game by Polish studio CD Projekt Red. The series was animated by Japanese animation studio Trigger under the supervision of CD Projekt and premiered on Netflix in September 2022. Set in the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith, the anime serves as a prequel to the game and takes place about a year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077.

In my experimentation with Jamie Reid's iconic art style, I dove into his rebellious visual language by using a neon background, layering them with elements like newspaper cut outs of government figures, headlines and titles that speak out about issues such as medical negligence as a test. In the one featuring a British flag that I had drawn and layered on top of I aimed to achieve Reid's work famously critiques authority and disrupts traditional imagery, and I wanted to echo that defiant energy by giving it a modern, electrified twist. The neon contrasts create an intense, almost jarring effect, amplifying the clash between establishment symbols and countercultural themes. Through these visuals, I aim to evoke a spirit of revolution, pushing viewers to reconsider the meaning of national symbols and the role of power in society.

4o

For this task I used a plastic cup filled with paint that had a hole in the bottom with string tied around it - becoming a pendulum tool for painting. However, it did not go as well as I had intended. My first colour I chose was blue, we were advised to mix water with the paint to control the consistency of it and the speed that it drips, but I didn't add enough which caused hardly any paint to pour and when it did pour it was inconsistent and random making a mess of the classroom floor. I decided to use a blue paper towel to dab and spread paint around the paper acting as a stamp for unique patterns. On the second attempt I used green paint ensuring it was more watered down than last time. I achieved a much more desired effect and ended up being overall satisfied with my outcome.

My original ideas didn't draw much inspiration from Cyberpunk edge runners because I hadn't yet decided to take revolution in technology as a serious theme - but this task helped me develop more than just my creative skills but also the project direction as a whole. My original inspirations were more random and misdirected looking into another series/ franchise known as Monster High - such as my colour palettse and facial features. But you can see I quickly take a cyber/ sci fi approach to the task

I’m disappointed with not completing it, especially since I struggled with achieving meticulous details and accurate anatomy, as I had no sculpting tools and could only use my hands. Despite these challenges, I wanted to create the model purely to experiment with the outcomes of working with clay, exploring how the medium could bring my character to life. Unfortunately the clay model itself is at my house due to my intention to finish it but not being able to

Using Adobe Illustrator has been a learning experience, and I’ve become much more comfortable with it, especially while working on an outcome of my original character. Working with a drawing tablet for the first time was intriguing, giving me a new way to control line quality and detail that felt more natural than a mouse. Each session helped me feel more confident with digital tools, and it was exciting to see my character evolve through Illustrator’s features, from basic sketches to a more polished digital piece. The drawing tablet has been a huge improvement over my original attempts with a mouse. The tablet offers much finer control, letting me create smoother lines and more natural details, which I struggled to achieve before. With the tablet, it feels more like actual drawing, making the whole process faster and more intuitive. I’ve enjoyed seeing my original character take shape this way, and it’s helped me feel more confident in digital illustration overall.

With this piece there was much more trial and error than the last one, with the sketch taking the most time. I couldn't decide on what proportions to make the face, considering when I had initially drawn Ingenia, her facial features were different, featuring larger eyes and a smaller head shape. But When drawing her with slightly more realistic facial proportions and a longer face overall, she fit the page size much better, leaving less empty space above the head and looking more complete. The painting process went much smoother - it was pleasant to re-familiarise myself with watercolours as a medium.

I found the storyboarding task to be particularly difficult considering my first attempt had been done with no knowledge on storyboards or angles at all - but the second attempt I presented through progressive stages of completion despite not being able to tell much of what's happening - unfortunately I never finished refining it. Out of all the tasks and experimentations I've attempted I was most let down with this one - although it did make me try to consider how to utilise storytelling through different compositions and angles.

His innovative use of video and electronics to create interactive experiences challenges conventional art forms and reflects the revolution in media and tech. Paik’s unique approach, blending futuristic visions with artistic expression motivates me to think critically about technology’s role in societal change.

I decided that I was unsatisfied with the angle I was drawing the picture in, or that I was executing my initial sketch idea poorly from what I originally envisioned, so I decided to keep most of the composition of the buildings but instead re-draw the angles and textures. Although the outcome isn't very detailed I much prefer the look of the new one more. Drawing Ingenia was one of my favourite parts of the process, and experimenting with colour theory knowing that none of the colours I used are what we perceive them as was also a valuable learning experience towards refining my digital skills. For example her, hair appears white but it's actually a shade of green.
