Last week many of you mentioned PPE in your posts and how it can challenge person centred care. I thought this picture captures the emotional labour of health care staff to show patients there is a person at the centre of their care
best wishes
Pam

This is a painting from my partner who studies at ECA, during the pandemic I would come home and discuss working in covid conditions and reflect on my day (whilst upholding confidentiality). This was painted on our behalf to represent the increased pressure we have been under and the added emotional labour of caring for patients throughout the pandemic.

Let Kotlyarov (1946) "Nurses. Rest after duty."

I have very mixed emotions and thoughts about this painting by Let Kotlyarov. In one hand, I feel relaxed due to the colours and vibrance of the picture, on the other hand, I can feel the emotional and physical exhaustion of nurses as shown by the nurses' posture and expressions. I feel that this painting depicts our realities as nurses. The title of the painting can also be interpreted in different ways. It can be interpreted as a simple description of the painting. However, it can also serve as a reminder that as nurses, we too require rest both emotionally and physically.

Best,
Meryll
