Climate change refers to long-term changes in temperatures and weather patterns. These changes can be natural, due to variations in solar activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 19th century, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, mainly due to the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas.

The greenhouse effect is a process in which thermal radiation emitted by the planet's surface is absorbed by atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) and radiated in all directions. Since part of this radiation is returned to the Earth's surface and lower atmosphere, this results in an increase in the average surface temperature compared to what would occur in the absence of GHGs.

A general increase in temperatures, extreme weather events, heat waves and floods, crop failures, climate migrants and a long list of consequences that put climate change at the top of the global agenda due to its effects worldwide. Scientific evidence states that human industrial activity has caused most of the global warming of the last century through the emission of greenhouse gases, which retain heat and whose levels are increasingly higher.
