عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ: ” بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ: شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ، وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ”. رواه البخاري ومسلم

From Abu Abdul Rahman, Abdullah bin Umar Radhiallahu 'anhuma, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam say: "Islam is built upon five (things) – bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat, performing Hajj to the House of Allah, and fasting in the month of Ramadan."
(Hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).

Here’s a breakdown :

1. Shahada (Faith) : The declaration of faith, stating that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger. This is the fundamental creed of Islam, and it must be sincerely recited to become a Muslim.

2. Salat (Prayer) : Muslims are required to perform five daily prayers at specific times during the day: at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and night. These prayers are a direct link between the worshiper and Allah.

3. Zakat (Almsgiving) : Muslims are required to give a portion of their wealth to those in need. This practice promotes social justice and helps to reduce inequality in society.

4. Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan) : During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs. Fasting is seen as an act of self-discipline, spiritual reflection, and empathy for the less fortunate.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage) : Every Muslim who is physically and financially able is required to perform the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime. The Hajj includes a series of rituals meant to bring a Muslim closer to Allah.

1. Belief in Allah (God) :
Muslims believe in the absolute oneness of Allah, the Creator of the universe, who is unique, eternal, and free from all imperfections. Allah has no partners, no children, and no equals.

2. Belief in the Angels :
Muslims believe in the existence of angels, who are created by Allah from light. Angels are noble beings who carry out Allah's commands and have no free will. Among the most well-known angels are Jibreel (Gabriel), Mikail (Michael), Israfil (Raphael), and Malik (the angel in charge of Hell).

3. Belief in the Divine Books :

Muslims believe in the divine scriptures revealed by Allah to His prophets, which include the Quran (revealed to Prophet Muhammad), the Torah (revealed to Prophet Musa/Moses), the Psalms (Zabur, revealed to Prophet Dawud/David), the Gospel (Injil, revealed to Prophet Isa/Jesus), and the Scrolls of Ibrahim (Abraham).

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment :
Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, when all individuals will be resurrected for judgment based on their deeds. Those who followed the guidance of Allah and His prophets will be rewarded with eternal Paradise, while those who rejected the faith will be punished in Hell.

6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar) :
Muslims believe in Qadar, the divine preordainment or predestination of everything that happens in the world. Allah has knowledge of everything and has written everything that will occur in His divine book. However, humans are still responsible for their actions, and they have free will to choose their path.

Key events that are believed to occur on the day of judgment include:

1. Resurrection :

All humans will be resurrected from their graves.

2. The Reckoning :

Every person will be shown their deeds, and Allah will judge them based on their faith and actions.

3. The Scales of Justice :

The deeds of every individual will be weighed, with good deeds placed in one scale and bad deeds in the other.

4. Intercession :

Prophets, especially Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), may intercede on behalf of believers.

5. Final Judgment :

Based on the judgment, people will either be rewarded with eternal bliss in Paradise or condemned to eternal punishment in Hell.

The Day of Judgment is a reminder for Muslims to live righteous lives, follow Allah’s guidance, and remain conscious of their actions in this world.

1. Adab (Good Manners and Etiquette) refers to proper behavior, manners, and respect in all aspects of life, including interactions with family, friends, neighbors, and society at large. It encompasses the teachings of Islam regarding how Muslims should conduct themselves with kindness, humility, and respect toward others.

Examples of adab in Islam include:

• Showing respect to parents, elders, and teachers.

• Treating others with kindness and fairness.

• Being honest, polite, and considerate.

• Practicing cleanliness and humility.

• Following proper etiquettes for eating, greeting, and dressing.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is often described as the perfect model of Adab, and Muslims are encouraged to follow his example.

2. Ihsan (Excellence and Perfection in Worship) refers to the highest level of excellence in one’s faith and actions. It involves striving to worship Allah as if you can see Him, and if you cannot see Him, knowing that He sees you. Ihsan encourages Muslims to go beyond fulfilling basic obligations and to perform all acts of worship and good deeds with sincerity, devotion, and perfection.

A famous hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) describes ihsan as follows: "Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then indeed He sees you."

Examples of ihsan include:

• Performing acts of worship (like prayer, fasting, and charity) with full sincerity and devotion.

• Doing good to others with the intention of seeking Allah’s pleasure, not for personal gain or recognition.

• Striving to perfect one’s character by following the teachings of Islam in all aspects of life.

Ihsan brings about a deep inner connection with Allah, where a Muslim not only fulfills religious obligations but does so with an awareness of Allah’s presence, seeking to improve their relationship with Him.
