John Legend on having a Growth Mindset - Jazmine Wright

In this video, famous R&B artist John Legend explains the impact that going through trials and error had on his successful career today. He states that "The great ones aren't the ones that don't fail, they're the ones that learn from their failure, and they keep going". When he made that statement, he was essentially saying that nothing happens over night. Success may appear like it was handed to someone you personally don't know, but truth is it was caused by practice, criticism, and a bunch of failure. Which takes me back to the article "What Having a Growth Mindset Actually Means" by Carol Dweck. In her article Dweck points out that "Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset. They attend to achieve more than those with a fixed mindset who believes their talents are innate gifts". This video helped me to prepare for failure. It motivated me to keep going, to focus on my own path at my own pace, and most importantly to never compare my success to others.

John Legend: Success through effort.
Stephen Hawking's Growth Mindset- Sarah Clark

In the video "Motivational Success Story of Stephen Hawking" by publisher Inspire Yourself, the speaker talked about Stephen Hawking's life and how he pushed himself to be better. After learning he didn't have much time to live by his doctors his mindset completely changed from being lazy to being productive. Instead of depressing himself about death, he chose to use it as a motivator to do as much as he could. In doing so, he managed to become a world known scientist with an additional 55 plus years more than what the doctors told him he had left to live. Hawking's once said, "Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious, and however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up." That resonates with me because it will help motivate me to be productive and try my best. I may see myself as lazy at times but if I try to do something I can succeed at it if I put my mind to it.

Yourself, I. (Producer).
How NBA coach Phil Jackson taught his teams Mindfulness - Tiffani Curbeam

NBA coach Phil Jackson speaks about the necessity of Mindfulness and the importance of meditation in success. Introducing the "one breath, one mind" philosophy. Players learned the importance of "resetting, reseating" and collecting themselves. Players are under intense pressure while on the basketball court, to make the correct calls, follow the perfect plays, and make spontaneous decisions. Phil Jackson began Mindfulness, with the Chicago Bulls after introducing other calming practices like yoga and tai chi. Neither of which was embraced by the players. After being introduced to Mindfulness, it eventually was welcomed by players. Players then began to meditate before games, this became a normal practice for the players of the Chicago Bulls, and also the Los Angelos Lakers. He explain's, how "building mental strength will build focus." As a student, this information was very informative and taught me that no matter the circumstances we can always reseat, reset, and focus. Mindfulness will refresh you, it will allow you to open up your mind and focus. Success is the focus without focus success is not possible.

How NBA Coach Phil JACKSON taught his teams ... - YouTube. (n.d.).
Albert Einstein and Metacognition - Jayden Goode

When addressing the process of learning and adaption, there is no better candidate then Mr. Emc^2 himself. In the video "Motivational Success Story Of Albert Einstein" the creator/publisher Inspire Youth tackles the biography and success story of Albert Einstein. The video begins by stating Einstein's childhood and unexpectedly Einstein metacognition process began at a young age. Ironically at 1-4 years of age Einstein was thought to be "intellectually disabled" because he was slow to talk and did not speak until the age of 4. This genetic limitation did not stop the young genius as he developed a system to teach himself how to talk and practice to formulate words and sentences in his head and under the breath. The success continues on as Einstein began to play violin at 6 and master calculus at 15, to then proceed later on in life and create formulas we use today. With all these accomplishments the video states Albert "Einstein was just an average kid" he just choose to educate himself and develop a process to genuinely enjoy educating himself in all fields. The connection to me is purely through experience in the classroom knowing that I am not the brightest kid but I have the same potential of even Einstein himself. Using Einstein's process of thinking and adapting inspires me to think outside the box and never be scared to fail because that's true education.

Youth, I. (Director).
