The first bell got a large crack in the year 1857 and broke. The company melted the old bell and made a new one. The bell then got another crack, but this time it was just turned around and there was a massive reduction of the force of  the hammer.  
 There are also two big theories, of why the Big Ben was called the Big Ben, one of the theories is, that it was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who was the first commissioner of work till the point of the installationprocess of the bell, the other theory being it named after Ben Caunt, who was a heavyweight boxer, who had his last fight in 1857. 
The clock of the Big Ben was engineered in 1848 by Edmund Denison and Sir George Airy and made by Edward John Dent. It is the second largest clock in Great Britain, with the hour pointer on the clock being 2,7 meters long and the minute pointer being 4,3 meters long.
The clock is ran by four mechanics 24/7. The tower is all in all 96,3 meters tall, the first 61 meters are made out of bricks with a limestone facede and the top is made out of iron.   • biggest public square in the center of London
  • was planned by John Nasher in 1820 and finished by Sir Charles Barry between 1840 and 1845
  • FUN FACT: during rebuilds in the 1950s they found some old bones from animals like lions and rhinos
  • in the center of the square is a monument of Admiral Nelson for remembering the victory of the English over the French and Spanish in the Battle of Trafalgar. (Nelsons column is 51 meters tall)
  • besides the column there are fountains, figures of lions, more figures of the generals Napier and Havelock and a statue of Georg IV on a horse.
  • at the northern part of the square there are stairs leading to the National Gallery, an art museum.
  • since 2000 it is strictly forbidden to feed birds due to pollution from the birds 
  • the capacity of the square is 20.000 people
  • the square is a central meeting point for people since the middle ages and was often used for demonstrations or announcements
  • today the square is used for all kinds of events. for example the London Film festival or Comedy Festivals too
