The repeal of the Missouri Compromise through the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act was more of an impact than the compromise itself, according to historian Robert Forbes. While the Missouri Compromise effectively settled the question of slavery from 1820 to 1854, its repeal began the sectional conflict that eventually brought the nation into the Civil War.

Cotton Whigs- Northern members of a particular political party who were linked to Northern cloth manufacturers, and supported Zachary Taylor for President.

Were all Northerners against slavery? Why or Why not? No. Because the Conscience Whigs didn't want slavery and the Cotton Whigs wanted slavery because they owned the large cotton gins and things like that in which they needed slavery to get the cotton to keep in business.

What last ditch attempts were made at compromise? List the proposal and why it did not pass

The compromise proposed six constitutional amendments and four Congressional resolutions. Crittenden introduced the package on December 18. It was tabled on December 31. It guaranteed the permanent existence of slavery in the slave states and addressed Southern demands in regard to fugitive slaves and slavery in the District of Columbia. It proposed extending the Missouri Compromise line to the west, with slavery prohibited north of the 36° 30′ parallel and guaranteed south of it. The compromise included a clause that it could not be repealed or amended. The compromise was popular among Southern members of the Senate, but it was generally unacceptable to the Republicans, who opposed the expansion of slavery beyond the states where it already existed into the territories. The opposition of their party's leader, President-elect Abraham Lincoln, was crucial.

What were Lincoln's main goals at the beginning of the war?

Lincoln wanted to bring the seceded states back into the Union. He also wanted to prevent the Northern slave-owning 'buffer-states' from joining the Confederacy. He did not acknowledge the right of any state to secede.
