Gallery Walk: Literary Devices, Friday by Mr. Sun

Directions: Write the mood/theme in each quote and any literary devices the quote uses.

mood= what feeling is the text creating
theme=what is the overall message the author trying to convey
Identify which literary device the quote (some do not have any) is using and what makes them so: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, imagery; irony, tone, mood, point of view, sentence structure, diction (word choice), dialogue, sensory language and details, symbols, allusions, word and phrase repetition, sound devices like alliteration and onomatopoeia.

If you agree with one of your classmates' comments please starr it or add a response to it. At the end, you will have to share-out to the class regarding one of the quotes, be ready.

Does the quote include any literary devices? If so, what effect does the literary device have?

I feel like the tone of the last sentence in the Great Gatsby is melancholic, like it isn't positive because of the word 'ceaselessly' (meaning unending) and 'borne back ' (brought back to the starting point, kind of meaning like failure). I think this means that of our attempts to escape the past while we look forward to the future. The literary devices include metaphor (described as boats trying to go against the obstacle) and a symbol which is the current (an obstacle that pushes us back)

I think the theme for this quote is like moving on from the past because the current represents the obstacle and the worse thing we face in the past. We must move on by overcoming the obstacle. The mood of the quote seems to be motivated but depressed because the quote show we must move on even though we face many tragic events. I think this quote used metaphor because the quote compares the current as an obstacle.

This quote is describing the lack of empathy of Tom and Daisy’s personalities. We can see that clearly because they moved away rather than face Myrtle and Gatsby’s deaths. Repetition is being used in this quote as the word "careless" has been repeated many times.

I think mood for this quote is Melancholy because Gatsby try so hard and put so many effort to get Daisy back but in the end, he fail accomplished it. The literary device that the quote used is imagery because Nick describe Gatsby house and New York city.

The purpose of this quote is that Nick happily agree on how Tom Myrtle lifestyle, and they both also find that the guests are disgust and lack of attraction.
