One can be to have the students write about a different ending for the story. Another is to start a book club with the class. Instead of morning work the students can read and after the entire class has arrived to class the class can sit on the carpet and share what they liked about the story.

This creepy book can also be used to read out loud to the students since reading to the students helps their fluency and prosody.
