Communication is a Key Component to Effective Collaboration

There are many factors that contribute to communication between colleagues, IEP teams, or intervention teams. Effective, transparent, and honest communication is an essential or KEY component to successful collaboration. This GIF is a funny image seemingly from the 80s or 90s conveying that communication is key and I thought this could be a funny addition to any presentation, while still getting my point across. I truly believe that in any educational field that open and honest communication is the foundation to effective involvement and support from all team members.

Placement is Determined by IEP

A student's placement should only be based upon the information presented in the IEP and current present levels. Sometimes other factors like parents or advocates can try to program shop in order to influence the student's placement, however, all members of IEP teams should be ready to advocate for the student's LRE and placement based on present levels and assessment data. The picture presented focuses on an individual student, despite there being other students pictures in the class. I thought that it encompassed her placement and supports being based on the needs presented in her IEP and her present levels.

Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)

Placement in the LRE being based upon present levels and the IEP is a legal obligation and responsibility of the entire IEP team. Sometimes other factors can be presented as a means of influencing a student's placement however, the IEP team should lean into data as the driving force into placement into the LRE that is individualized to the student. In the photo selected, it seems as if a group of students are all learning in a hands on way in a collective small group setting. This could be an example of the LRE for any of the students.
