Caesar assisted Cleopatra in ensuring her rule over Egypt after diplomacy broke down. In the chaos of battle, Cleopatra's brother-king reportedly drowned during an attempt to escape, perhaps due to an overcrowded boat. An Egyptian custom held that those who drowned in the Nile were blessed by Osiris. In response, Caesar dredged the river until the body was found before placing the armor up for display.

Cleopatra reported escorted its replacement up the Nile in accordance with Egyptian customs. This act, as well as her knowledge of the Egyptian language at the time, led some to view her much more favorably than many other Ptolemaic monarchs.

Cleopatra closely related herself to Isis, as she was a very significant and powerful goddess. Among many disciplines, one is the mother of Pharaohs. This is likely why Cleopatra and her son, Caesarion, were depicted as Isis and Horus. Horus is the son of Isis and is also closely tied to Pharaohs.

Circa 320-30 BC: Serapis: A fusion of Hellenic and Egyptian mythologies

While Serapis predates Cleopatra's life, the worship of Serapis may have helped Greek, Egyptian, and even Roman pantheons to find equivalents in other cultures. Serapis was seen as a Greek interpretation of the embalmed Osiris-Apis. Osiris was the Egyptian God of the afterlife and sister to Isis, the goddess Cleopatra closely associated with. The intermingling of Greek and Egyptian gods may have greatly benefited Cleopatra's reach outside of Egypt.
