Chinese Jump rope is significant in the story because, Dinah is especially good at this game. This helps Winnie develop her friendship with Dinah. It also helps her compare Dinah and Amanda. Winnie also strengthens the relationship between her and Dinah by standing up for her, standing up to Gail, whom she hated but, did not stand up to her even if it was for herself(Winnie). In the text it states, “‘Then what is the point, Winnie?’ Gail asked. ‘The point is...’ I said. ‘The point is...’ She smirked. ‘The point is you are not the boss of things just because you wear a bra!’”

They glided down to Roz, Brightbill took his place on his mother’s shoulder. “I told you we’d keep your son out of trouble!” squawked Loudwing. “Thank you, everyone!” The robot spoke in her most cheerful voice. “It is so good to see all of you again.” The cows trotted over, grinning and happily mooing to the geese. While the herd and the flock cougjht up with each other, Roz and Brightbill slipped away to speak privately. “What’s the plan, Ma?” said Brightbill. “The plan is simple,” said Roz. “Tonight, under the cover of darkness, I will run away from this farm. The text says, “Several times a week, they’d gather beneath the oak tree and Roz would tell stories about the robot on the island. The children loved hearing how the robot survived mudslides and bear attacks and harsh winter weather. They loved hearing how she befriended the island animals. But the stories they loved most were about the robot and her son, the goose. He sounded like such a nice goose. Roz told the children story after story after story. What she didn’t tell them, what she couldn’t tell them, was that the stories were true, and they were about her. The children wanted to get in on the storytelling fun. Jaya told adventure stories about dragons and monsters. Jad told silly stories about aliens in outer space.
