The project offered me the possibility to tackle EU values through literature and theatre, becoming an engaging way of students' activation.

The project's topic was closely connected to our school's curriculum for teaching English at upper secondary level. This is why I as a teacher enjoyed cooperating with other European schools, students and teachers in order to broaden the student's horizons when it comes to the American dream and American realities in the context of the play "Raisin in the sun" and today's latest events. It was very interesting to see how other countries deal with this topic and to realise that our students across Europe actually do have very similar dreams when it comes to their own reality and future.

I realized that dreams are important for everyone, even if we come from different cultures. Each character in the play had a dream, and the way they struggled to achieve it made me think about my own hopes and fears.

Participating in the eTwinning project “Raisin(g) in the Sun” was a highly enriching and motivating experience for both my students and me. Through watching the film "A Raisin in the Sun" and reading and interpreting Lorraine Hansberry’s original play during English lessons, students deepened their literary understanding while engaging with timeless social themes such as identity, dreams, discrimination and family values. The project strongly supported the development of critical thinking skills, as students analyzed characters and conflicts, shared interpretations, and reflected on how the play’s messages remain relevant in today’s world.

What made this project particularly valuable was the authentic international collaboration and real-life communication in English. Students worked in international teams through forums and online meetings, actively discussing ideas, exchanging viewpoints and collaborating in breakout rooms. The digital creation tasks - especially reinterpreting the play in a contemporary context and producing podcasts, movie-trailers, blackout and acrostic poems (turned into Suno AI songs), allowed students to creatively express their understanding while developing digital, communication, and teamwork skills. Presenting collaborative outcomes and disseminating the work boosted students’ confidence and sense of achievement. Overall, the project successfully combined literature, language learning, digital creativity and intercultural dialogue, making learning meaningful, engaging, and truly international.

Participating in the “Raisin(g) in the Sun” eTwinning project was a very interesting and inspiring experience for me. I enjoyed working with students from other countries and using English in real-life situations, not just in the classroom. Watching the film, reading the play and discussing the characters(' dreams) helped me better understand the messages of the story and see how its themes (and personal dreams) are still relevant today. Creating a podcast and sharing ideas in international teams made learning more creative and engaging, and it also helped me improve my communication, collaboration and digital skills.

It made me see how each character in A Raisin in the Sun struggles differently, yet they are all connected by the need for dignity and a better life. One meaningful moment for me was when Walter finally rejects Lindner’s offer, because it showed that self-respect and family unity are more important than money. This project also helped me realize that people from different backgrounds can interpret the same story in different ways, which makes literature more powerful and meaningful.

Participating in the project “Raising in the Sun – Teaching Dreams Across Cultures” had a strong impact on my understanding of both myself and others, as well as on the deeper themes of the play. Through discussions and collaboration with students from different cultural backgrounds, I realized that, although our lives may look different on the surface, our dreams, fears, and struggles are often very similar.

One meaningful insight I gained is how universal the idea of a “dream” truly is. Just like the Younger family in the play, many of us are trying to find our place in the world and overcome obstacles, whether they are social, economic, or personal. This made me reflect on my own ambitions and how important perseverance and family support are in achieving them.

A moment that stayed with me was when we compared our personal dreams with those of the characters. Hearing others speak about their hopes and challenges made me more empathetic and open-minded. It helped me understand that everyone carries their own story, shaped by their background and experiences.

Overall, this project helped me grow not only as a student, but also as a person. It taught me to appreciate diversity, to listen more carefully to others, and to better understand the message of the play—that dreams can unite us, even across cultures.

Iulius

Ioana Dragoș RO (CMVI Student) The project taught me that while our cultures differ, the struggle for dignity and the pursuit of dreams are universal. It made me more empathetic toward the "unspoken" battles others face. I gained a deeper view of resilience. I now see that a "dream deferred" is a test of character and family unity, not just a failure.
