The village suffered from a famine, so he cut his own bodies for the villagers to eat. Another powerful psychic passing by one day saw this and thought the whole village was disgusting and had lost their moralities as human beings., so he burned them all by his long-lasting flame. The flame has tortured the leading man for a few years because his ability of regeneration and the fire kept on fighting. 
I love how the author depict these superpowers fight against psychics in a very fierce and sanguinary way.
