Karen M. McManus’s novel, "One of Us Is Lying," is a rollercoaster ride through the intricacies of high school life, where five students enter detention, but only four leave alive. The premise alone hooks you from the start, promising a blend of mystery, suspense, and teenage drama that delivers on every front.

Set against the backdrop of Bayview High, the narrative unfolds through the perspectives of four distinct characters: Bronwyn, the ambitious brainiac; Addy, the picture-perfect homecoming queen; Nate, the rebellious bad boy with a troubled past; and Cooper, the talented jock struggling under immense pressure. Each character brings a unique voice and perspective to the story, turning what could have been a straightforward whodunit into a rich tapestry of secrets, motives, and personal struggles.

What truly sets McManus's novel apart is its ability to balance suspense with emotional depth. While the mystery keeps readers eagerly turning pages, it's the characters' personal journeys and the bonds they forge—or break—in the face of adversity that make the story memorable.

The novel’s strength lies not only in its suspenseful plot but also in its exploration of moral ambiguity and the grey areas of human nature.

"One of Us Is Lying" is a must-read for fans of mystery and psychological suspense, showcasing McManus’s talent for crafting gripping narratives that resonate long after the final page.

It's a must-read for anyone who enjoys a gripping narrative that challenges perceptions and keeps you guessing until the very end.

NAME- Anwesha Nanda

CLASS-VIII

SECTION- C

"The Third Girl" by Agatha Christie is a really great mystery book set in 1900's London. The story unfolds when the young and troubled Norma Restarick approaches Hercule Poirot with a chilling statement: she believes she has committed murder, but cannot remember the victim or the details of the crime. Poirot, always sharp and observant, takes on the case despite initial doubts about Norma's reliability. At first, he's not sure if Norma is telling the truth, but he decides to investigate anyway. As he delves deeper into her life and the lives of those around her, layers of deception and hidden motives gradually come to light.

Beyond the central mystery, the novel explores themes of youth rebellion, identity crisis, and the clash between generations in the heart city of England.

Poirot's methodical approach to unraveling the truth, coupled with his keen psychological insight, keeps readers on the edge of their seats as they attempt to piece together the puzzle alongside him.

As he digs deeper into the case, you start to see that everyone has secrets and things they're hiding. It keeps you guessing until the end.

What's cool about the book is how it talks about different things like young people rebelling, figuring out who they are, and how older and younger generations clash.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking a meticulously crafted mystery that challenges perceptions and keeps you guessing until the very end.

Name-Anwesha Nanda

Class -VIII/C

"Perfect" by Cecelia Ahern is super great. It's about this girl named Celestine North who lives in a world where everyone has to be perfect all the time. Like, if you have any flaws, it's illegal!

Celestine is like the perfect girl in school, always following the rules and never making any waves. But then one day, she helps this guy who's considered flawed, and everything changes for her. She starts to see that maybe being perfect isn't everything.

I loved how the book made me think about what it means to be yourself and not just what everyone else wants you to be. Celestine is such a strong character, and she goes through so much to stand up for what she believes in. It's really inspiring.

The story is so exciting too! There's lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing.

I think this book is perfect for anyone who likes stories about standing up for what's right and not being afraid to be different.

NAME- Anwesha Nanda

CLASS- VIII C

ROLL NO-32

Celestine totally rocks in the second book "Flawed" of the Perfect series. She starts off all about following the rules in this super strict society where being perfect is everything. But then, she sees something unfair happen to a Flawed person and decides she can't just sit back and watch.

Celestine's willpower is off the charts! Even though everyone around her is scared to go against the system, she stands up and fights for what's right. It's like, she's not afraid to be herself and show that the rules aren't always fair.

I loved how she changes the society just by being brave and believing in herself. Like, she inspires others to question things and not just accept whatever they're told. It's really cool to see her grow from this girl who always followed the crowd to someone who led the crowd. Celestine's story shows that one person can make a big difference if they have the guts to try. Plus, the book kept me hooked with all the twists and suspense.

If you're into stories about standing up against injustice and fighting for fairness, you should totally check out "Flawed". It's awesome!

NAME- ANWESHA NANDA

CLASS- VIII C

ROLL NO-32

The "Back in Time" series by Geronimo Stilton is a captivating masterpiece that perfectly blends historical exploration with thrilling narrative elements, making it an incredibly engaging read. One of the primary reasons you love this series is its ability to transform history into a living, breathing adventure. Instead of reading dry facts from a textbook, you are thrust into vibrant, detailed historical eras—ranging from the architectural marvels of ancient Egypt to the rugged terrain of the prehistoric Stone Age. This immersive world-building makes learning about the past feel like an organic byproduct of a fast-paced, high-stakes mystery. Furthermore, the brilliant character dynamics elevate the story, as the reluctant, easily spooked Geronimo serves as the perfect audience surrogate whose anxieties and humorous mishaps contrast beautifully with his adventurous family members, adding layers of comedic relief and familial warmth. Additionally, the series stands out due to its unique, multi-sensory formatting; the inclusion of interactive elements like scratch-and-sniff pages, hidden puzzles, and secret codes keeps your mind actively engaged, turning passive reading into an active investigation. The typography itself is dynamic, utilizing colorful, stylized fonts that visually mimic the action on the page. Ultimately, your passion for this series stems from this flawless synergy of action-packed plots, relatable humor, striking visual design, and the pure joy of uncovering secrets of the past alongside characters you love.

BY SATYAJEET RATH

CLASS 8 A

ROLL NO 26
