Over time, the slave traders discovered that slaves taken from West Africa were the most productive workers on plantations. Therefore, they transported approximately 6 million black slaves from West Africa.

The plantations were located across the Atlantic in the southern states of America or in the Caribbean.

The luxury goods were often brought back to Europe to be sold to the higher classes.  

This meant that the slave trade became a triangular trade.

The slave trade was so popular because people wanted people to work for them instead of doing things for themselves

Slaves were needed to work on plantations. They grew luxury crops including sugar, tobacco and cotton.
