In Greece, the symbol of the spring celebration is the rainbow colored wreaths made from wild flowers on May Day. This wreath is used as a household decoration on front doors, but also inside homes, and nowadays, making them serves as a good pretext for urban people to go out into the countryside and reconnect with nature. The spring wreath has many variations across the country, incorporating specific features of each local community. Rural people would traditionally ornate their spring wreaths with grass and fruits, and garlic for protection against the evil eye and with thorns to ward off enemies.
