"Livestock farming takes up a huge amount of land and water per calorie compared to crops, and in terms of greenhouse gas emission..."

This proves viability because lab grown meat doesn't take nearly as much as resources as livestock farming and doesn't emit much greenhouse gasses.

"These are stem cells that can turn into the different cells found in muscle. Just one cells could, in theory, be used to grow an infinite amount of meat."

This proves viability because the process of obtaining the cells is way less invasive and harmful than the way the meat industry treats and kills cows, pigs, chickens, etc. No animals actually need to be killed for this process, and therefore the meat produced is healthier as well as hormone and steroid free.

"...are keeping and eye on developments in regenerative medicine, the branch of biomedical science concerned with growing replacement organs and tissue for procedures as skin grafts."

"As well as animals parts for food, scientists could even grow organic items such as rhino horns in order to help prevent poaching."

This proves viability because the research for regenerative medicine is something that can benefit people needing new organs, but obviously cannot obtain them, especially in time sensitive cases. It also can be used in re-population efforts with endangered animals.

“Despite the welfare and environmental justifications for cultured meat, the thought of your burger coming from a lab rather than a farm is a strange idea.”

This proves viability because as humans, we have a level of distrust with things that confuse or concern us, so it’s understandable that the public would have a sensitivity to the idea of lab grown meat. It would prove to be difficult to get the public to adapt and implement a plant based or lab grown meat diet, so the energy and resources being used might all be for nothing.

"There was just one problem: the patty had taken two years and over $300,000 to produce.”

This proved viability because lab grown meat is a costly procedure and takes too much time to meet the demand for the product. The benefit from the product won’t initially be introduced to the public, which can add to the mistrust of the whole idea of lab grown meat.

Con: Not Enough Serum.

“Another issue is the nutrient-rich ‘serum’ that feeds the cells. Successful serums have been a cocktail of sugars, amino acids and animal blood...there would not be enough serum in the world to grow all the cells you need to mass-produce...”

This proves viability because the serum is the one thing needed for this whole process to continue. No serum=No meat, so it’s understandable that many people would be against lab grown meat because of this. It proves to be difficult to mass produce if the scientists can’t even obtain a larger amount of serum for mass production. It simply couldn’t keep up with the meat industry.
