Our AP Music Theory Students explored the concept of treating chords other than the I chord as temporary tonics by approaching them with their own dominant or leading-tone chords—an essential skill for both composition and analysis. Students identified and resolved V/V, V/vi, and vii°7/V chords in context, both aurally and on the board, and practiced voice leading dominant 7th chords into their targets with solfege and notation.
