Gabi has had a hard time growing up in a Catholic household due to the expectations her mother and aunt put on her to be a "good girl." The struggle is real for Gabi because she has to follow rules she does not always understand, and she cannot explore her sexuality. She struggles, but I believe she comes to a journey of self-acceptance at the end of the novel.
