The girls and women were making the matches. Match makers were usually the very poor people.Usually women and girls. All of the work was done standing and also had to run up and down stairs. They were running because they were paid by the piece not by the hour or day. They also could not bring home all of their pay because they had to pay back the company for the tools they used to make and box matches. They also got fined for stuff like dirty feet, leaving the area around the bench untidy, leaving matches on the bench(table) while getting a new frame, and talking. Being late would cause loss of half a days pay.

Most people will stereotype men because maybe maybe they have a higher pitched voice so they must be gay. Right? Wrong, Most people get the pitch of their voice from what they grow up around. For example a guy whos voice is higher pitched they might have grown up around a lot of women. A man whos voice is lower might have grown up around a lot of men and they can be gay. So it does not matter how high or low someone's voice is they get to choose if they are gay or straight.
