Sometimes young people tend to start off in low-level sales positions, a job that would be severely diminished by a decrease in disposable income and/or spending.

Second, it is essential that education and training enable people to be flexible and adaptable, so that businesses can respond to changing markets" (Robinson, 2011, p. 6). These recommendations contradicted Robinson's statement that education and training are keys to the future. It was aggravating that new products and services takes paramount over education. I would believe that education and training lead to the creation of new products and services so industries can develop a competitive edge. The recommendations build upon each other but education must take precedence.

Currently, education is ruled by standardized tests and obtaining State mandated standards. When all of the class time is dedicated to rote learning or learning information that translate to the tests, there is not room for creative outlets. The author is correct about a population of individuals flourishing after leaving the rigidity of education.

It used to be that you would pick a job and that could be what you did for the rest of your life, but because technology advances more rapidly than it used to, one cannot have a job for an entire lifetime. The need for the job is either taken away completely because a new technology can do the job more efficiently than a human, or the way the job is done is changed by technology and so the person has to learn new skills to keep the same job making it essentially a different job.

"Most children think they're highly creative; most adults think they're not." (Robinson, 2011, p.1) In my experiences, both in myself and with my peers, I've noticed that the older I grow, the less people volunteer to draw, or write, or sing, or do anything creative. And if an individual is brave enough to do so, it often comes with a preface that "I'm not that great at drawing", or "Sorry, my handwriting sucks." It's a shame that as we grow older, we become less and less confident in our creative abilities.

"It is often thought that creativity is about special activities, like the arts, or advertising, or design, or marketing. All of these can be creative; but so can anything, including science, mathematics, teaching, working with people, medicine, running a sports team or a restaurant."(Robinson, 2011, p.3) In my opinion, almost everything an individual does in life requires creativity. Companies need creative solutions for problems that arise, businesses need creative gimmicks in order to differentiate themselves from the competition, and educators need to use creative approaches to keep students engaged and learning the content.

"It's often thought that creative people are either born creative or not, just as they may have blue or brown eyes, and there is not much they can do about it. The fact is, there is a lot you can do to help people become more creative." (Robinson, 2011, p.4) There are plenty of ways to foster creative growth in individuals. Pretend play from a young age is a good start. Using one's imagination opens the door to coming up with hypotheticals later in life, which in turn allows for solutions to problems that do not even exist yet. Additionally, teaching creative writing and problem-solving skills are other ways of fostering creative growth. Just giving students freedom to create something is a great way to do this.

While it does call on the need for improvements to creativity cultivation in public k12 ed, it does not offer any specific and productive solutions to help achieve this goal.
