The pipeline construction was expected to create jobs, both directly in construction and indirectly in related industries. By increasing the supply of oil, the pipeline was going to help stabilize energy prices, and in general it was going to boost economic growth. But on the other side of things the pipeline had several environmental impacts and concerns like greenhouse gas emissions due to the transport of crude oil from tar sands. Oil spills and leaks which could harm ecosystems, water sources, and wildlife and land use and habitat disruption.
