According to Smithers Pira report,the global packaging market is expected to grow to $980.4 billion by 2022. And due to increasing concern on climate change, there is a growing pressure on brands and retailers towards using recycling friendly packaging. In this regard, the fair’s Green Printing & Packaging Solutions zone will feature innovative and environmental-friendly print and packaging materials and solutions. One of the exhibitors from Taiwan, Haurtyi Paper-bag Co., Ltd., ill introduce their novel, eco-friendly stone paper bag. Stone paper is a kind of substitute material for making paper bag which turns out to be water resistant and recyclable. Most importantly, no tree-cutting in the process of paper making.

The prospering luxury goods market has resulted in rising demand for high-end packaging globally. Arizton Advisory and Intelligence predicted that the global luxury packaging market will reach more than US$21 billion by 2024, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 5% during 2018 to 2024. The fair’s De Luxe Zone will feature premium printing and packaging solutions, including latest innovations for luxury goods such as jewellery, watches, cosmetics and perfumes, fashion accessories, wine, gourmet food and premium gifts, allowing retailers to further enhance consumer's product experience with innovative design and quality packaging materials.

Aside from using high quality materials, the adoption of anti-counterfeiting labels on packaging is of growing importance so that the authenticity of products can be verified, achieving an advanced user experience. Packaging Services is the ideal platform for such solutions. The RFID sleeve produced by Rainbow Light Enterprise Ltd is a cardholder which helps protect personal information stored on credit cards and ID Cards from e-thieves. The cardholder size and printing design can be customized to fit in different needs.

Tailored advertising is indispensable for any enterprise which aims at connecting to its target customers. World of Advertising & Signs will make its debut at the Fair to provide a platform for enterprises to explore innovative visual communication strategies. Solutions such as advertising equipment, display equipment, lightbox, LED products and signage will be featured.
 

One of the Hong Kong exhibitors, Media By Phone Co, will introduce Droptix technology which adds eye-catching 3D effect to packaging, posters and retailer’s shop display. In addition, the use of environmental-friendly materials in the print and packaging industry has become a trend.

Printing & Packaging Solutions for Fashion & Accessories will highlight solutions for fashion and accessories with products such as textile printing machines, labels, ribbons. Innovative Retail Display Solutions will present innovative retail display products and services, including digital signage, RFID tags along with other tech-savvy developments. Other zones include: Digital Printing & 3D Printing and Food and Beverage Packaging Solutions.

Aside from various print and packaging exhibits, buyers and industry players are welcome to attend a series of seminars and forums which will be held during the exhibition, focusing on key issues and global trends in the printing and packing industry. Networking reception will also be held to serve as the perfect platform for industry players to establish business contacts with their prospective partners.

Concurrently held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is the world’s biggest gift event, the 34th HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair. Free shuttle buses will run between the two locations allowing traders to visit both fairs at ease. The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), established by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ordinance in 1984, is a leading tertiary institution in the performing arts in Asia. It provides professional undergraduate education and practice-based postgraduate studies. The study encompasses Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. Its educational philosophy reflects the cultural diversity of Hong Kong with emphasis on Chinese and Western traditions, and interdisciplinary learning.

 

Since 2008, the Academy has attained the Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) status awarded by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) to self-monitor and accredit its own Undergraduate and Post-secondary programmes in the five programme areas of Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. Since 2016, the PAA status has been extended to cover Master’s Degree programmes and below. The programmes operated by the School of Chinese Opera are accredited by HKCAAVQ for recognition under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework.

 

Besides the main campus in Wanchai, Béthanie, the site of the Academy’s Landmark Heritage Campus in Pokfulam, has housed training facilities for the School of Film and Television since 2006.

 

In the QS World University Rankings announced in 2022, the Academy is ranked 1^st in Asia and 10^th in the world in the Performing Arts category.

(Hong Kong, 23 May 2022) The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is proud to congratulate Mr Lio Kuokman, the orchestra’s Resident Conductor, on being awarded Artist of the Year (Music) of the 16th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC).

 

Lio Kuokman has worked with many leading orchestras around the world. He is currently Programme Director of the Macao International Music Festival, a role he started in January 2020. He has received the Certificate of Commendation and the Medal of Cultural Merit from the governments of Hong Kong and Macao, respectively, and he was named one of Hong Kong’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons by Junior Chamber International in 2021. 

 

Lio Kuokman is delighted to have received the award: “I am honoured to be named as the Artist of the Year by the HKADC. Since the age of four, I have been dreaming of being a conductor. I am truly grateful for all the mentors who gave me guidance and opportunities throughout my musical journey. I wish to continue to make fine music for the audience in Hong Kong as well as around the world, together with the HK Phil and any other brilliant musician. I also want to bring music to the community and use music to connect people.”

 

Mr Benedikt Fohr, Chief Executive of the HK Phil, extends his heartfelt congratulations to Lio Kuokman: “Lio Kuokman has been collaborating with the HK Phil for many years and he became a family member of the HK Phil as a Resident Conductor since 2020. He is a home-grown conductor who has earned remarkable recognition internationally. He is talented with great passion, enthusiasm and commitment in musicmaking. His achievement is well-recognised. Organised by the HKADC, the Awards is an annual flagship event which aims to give formal recognition to distinguished arts practitioners who have achieved excellence and made significant contributions to the development of the arts in Hong Kong. Lio Kuokman will conduct the HK Phil’s Roman Holiday concerts on 18 June and 2 July 2022 (Saturdays) in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Among the most spectacular orchestral music in the entire repertory, Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome conjure up spell-binding images of the great city. In between, HK Phil’s Linda Stuckey presents the world premiere of OZNO’s Piccolo Concerto showcasing the small but mighty personality of this tiny instrument. Currently serving as Resident Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Programme Director of the Macao International Music Festival, Lio is praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as “a startling conducting talent”. He was the second prize winner of the third Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in Paris with audience prize and orchestra prize, and he has served as the first Chinese Assistant Conductor with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

 

Lio has successfully collaborated with many leading orchestras across the globe. This season he was invited as the first Chinese conductor to conduct subscription concert with the Vienna Symphony, and he also received an invitation by the French government to lead the first Saudi Arabia performance tour with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. He completed ten performances in Taiwan with NTSO, appeared at Music in PyeongChang Festival, and conducted the Season Finale concert with the HK Phil. Other collaborated orchestras including Detroit Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, Seoul Philharmonic, NHK, Hiroshima, Tokyo Metropolitan, Kyoto Symphony, Russian National Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic, Latvian National Symphony, etc.

 

Lio has also participated in opera productions. Lio recently collaborated with National Taichung Theater on Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Other opera performances include collaborations with Musica Viva Hong Kong on La bohème, L’elisir d’amore, Turandot, Madama Butterfly, Carmen; and was invited by Valery Gergiev as guest conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre. As a concert pianist, Lio has collaborated with Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and Fort Worth Symphony.

 

Educated at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory, Lio is a founding member and President of the Macao Chamber Music Association. For his contributions to the development of arts and culture, he has received Certificate of Commendation and Medal of Cultural Merit from both governments of Hong Kong and Macao. In 2021, Lio is the recipient of the Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons award.
