Analysis: Even when he was young, Gogol struggled with his name and who he is. He identified so much with Gogol, that being called Nikhil was completely foreign to him.

analysis: Gogol compares his name to other people's names. Other people have shortened nicknames like Alex , and notices that he can't have a shortened nickname with his name being Gogol. He wants a regular name but he's stuck with Gogol.

Analysis: Gogol regrets not changing his name when he was little. He is now stuck with a name he loathes.

analysis: Gogol hates his name for being unique instead of imbracing it.

analysis: Gogol is doesn't like how the class relates him to the author of the book. He is embarrassed when the teacher teaches his book.

Analysis: Gogol from a young age will not become a traditional Indian.

Gogol feels weird and uncomfortable because his whole life hes been called Gogol and all of sudden he has to get used to a new name which for a kid anything new can be pretty scary.
