Flex grouping allows a teacher to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. The groups should change based on the learning target/standard/baseline data. Flex groupings are beneficial for many reasons. They help teachers personalize learning through data/interest of the student. Eventually students will be able to have a choice in what they read/do to meet the learning target/standard. Maybe Flex grouping will make it easier for teachers to offer choices, which ultimately help motivate our middle school students.
