1 in 3 women will have an abortion in their lifetime. So why is it still such a huge taboo to speak openly about it in 2017?

People have started to speak up about issues like LGBT rights, breast feeding in public, and how we talk about periods. But why can't we speak about women's abortion experiences without it becoming a huge moral debate? I want to find out how to break this stigma, and would appreciate if you would join in with this discussion about how this could be achieved for my research.

Maybe women sharing their experiences will help their recovery process, as well as creating empathy and compassion from others, therefore making others realise that it's not about their own strong opinions, but it's about the individual coping with an abortion

I personally don’t see the issue with abortion, unless it is used regularly as it shouldn’t be seen as a an alternative to contraception. I feel the stigma could be broken by it maybe being taught in schools openly and if there was more tv programs/ documentaries addressing the issue. It might allow people to be more open minded towards the situation
