The main ideas from chapter 4 were their appearances and her parents marriage. Her family was very strict about how they looked. They wanted to show white families a good example. They couldn't leave the house unless they were dressed properly. Their father said "dress like your going somewhere". The other main topic was the marriage and divorce of her parents. She went from her father to her mother asking about the marriage. Her mother talked about the flaws of her father. Michele found out things that her father did to her mother that she thought were good. Overall it was about how appearances were important for their family and the marriage of her parents
