It seems that all this beauty with the already introduced element of being haunted and other dark tones, only goes to amplify the reader's attention to the latter. And it goes on to show then we she looks out on the beauty, she only notices a single point of "creeping" blackness. This fact may contribute to her condition as an inability to focus of the light when there is a single point of dark and why she obsesses over the wall. 

The room's qualities - The room is a former with bars on its windows, emphasizing her treatment as a child/ prisoner and thus the eventual break from her identity as a sane adult woman. "John says if I don’t pick up faster he shall send me to Weir Mitchell in the fall", this man was a physician famous for "rest cure" for nervous diseases, particularly hysteria. The treatment emphasized isolation, confinement to bed, dieting, and electrotherapy. Under his care, the author herself – Charlotte Perkins Gilman – suffered a nervous breakdown. The narrator is a reflection of author's experiences combating anxiety, and serves to add to the theme statement.

She has applied characteristics onto furniture in her childhood and now that habit or nature is amplified in the wallpaper, "I never saw so much expression in an inanimate thing before, and we all know how much expression they have!"(69).  This figure she sees is someone she can relate with. The most effectual contribution to the point of view development would be her own mindedness, the fact that everything she is saying to herself sounds completely justifiable even with the reader.
