Jealousy is one of the biggest themes in Othello. It is the reason behind the conflict between Othello and Iago. Iago resents Othello and Othello suspects desdemona. Iago is a character who can easily get jealous of people around him. He first is jealous of Michael Cassio because he was promoted to lieutenant instead of himself. His jealousy also fueled is hatred for Othello later on when he heard rumors that he slept with his wife Emilia.
