Let America Be America Again

The abolishment of slavery marked a milestone that ended years of slavery and freed Blacks and conveys the message of freedom in the Country where all men are equal with the exemption of colored people.

The concept that connects with Let America Be American Again would be Identity because it shows the struggles of not just Africans but also immigrants that came to America only to be treated badly and want the America, the land of the free and not what it was before.

The civil war also connects with this poem with the concept of "identity" because how the civil war was the result of the Southern States not wanting to free the slaves and would prefer to see them as inferior than as an equal. Which made many slaves wonder about their identity and why was it them to be treated brutality.

One Friday Morning

One Friday Morning was during a time when colored people were segregated from Whites and weren't allowed to participate in the same schools as them. They were given bad living conditions to their White counter parts.

The Harlem Renaissance was the time when African American culture began to bloom, there was more creativity in the arts such as music, writing, etc.

The one concept that connects with One Friday Morning is Belonging because of how Nancy Lee was a student who had won an art scholarship that was then revoked. She thought she belonged in the American of "liberty and justice for all" only to be rejected because of her skin color.

Mother Son

The concept I think most fits with these two subjects is "man vs society" which contributes and connects with the short poem "Mother Son". Martin Luther and this historical movement as many know the "civil rights act" connects with this poem because he gave many hope and motivation to do something with many African Americans lives because they deserve better for they're children and better for themselves . In this poem his mother grew up and learned from this war between herself and her society. Learned from it and doesn't want her son to grow up the same way. She gives advice and says it will be rough but you have to keep going and moving up the staircase to accomplish what you want to your goals and achievements etc.
