Black people were being denied the right to vote and wanted to do something to change that. Black people across Alabama were fighting to get the freedom to vote, but they were being denied by the state police as they tried to prevent them from passing. So, they organized a grand march. To get the right to vote, and to prove that the police will not stand in their way of their constitutional rights. This march turned into three different marches. With Montgomery for the destination of all three.

After making a plan and gathering recruits, making signs, preparing, the colored society of Selma set out to Montgomery. When crossing the bridge, their path was blocked by the police(which was expected). They were greeted by dogs, and bats and were brutally attacked by the police and state troopers. This day is known as Bloody Sunday because of all the lives lost, and limbs broken on this day.
