The main character named Shy took a summer job as a crew member on a cruise ship to make some extra money. He figured since the cruise was a pretty luxurious cruise which it meant it was pretty expensive so the tips would be crazy. A few months on there he would be able to aid his mother and sister on their bills and it would put some money in his pocket too. Of course anyone would think that being on a cruise ship wouldn’t be bad at all. Bikinis, free food and even maybe a girl or two. Shy had some ups and downs while on this cruise also. 

Nobody saw this taking a turn for the worst though because it just seemed so perfect until a major storm came in. It was called the “Big One” supposedly the biggest earthquake California has ever seen and this changes his life forever. But this wasn’t the only natural diaster that happened. Now the fight is to survive for the ones who are left…….

This book was very interesting and on some parts it actually leaves you on the edge of your seat eager to read the next couple of words, sentence, paragraph or even the next page. I like how the book shows a variety of different themes like: Survival, and also Courage and Heroism. I feel as though those are the main ones in the book because it happens during the Climax, Falling Action and Resolution which is about 75% of the book. 

I like the way the setting is described throughout the book because it allows you to see from different perspectives all the time. The setting also introduces the conflict too because in order for someone to fully understand what is going on they have to know where it is and what is happening around them.

I feel as though the cover has a lot to do with the book itself because when you look at the book it shows that some type of accident happened out in the ocean since you see rubble and sharks lurking around the area. The cover itself is very intriguing because of the color and the all around image that’s on it.

  This quote shows how people view you when you are at your worst level of life so I chose this quote so people don’t feel bad about themselves. 
  
  

“Just when Shy started thinking Carmen was a no-show he heard the ding of the elevator and looked up. The doors slid open and Carmen came walking out in a long black dress and heels and his stomach instantly filled with butterflies.” -pg 80

  This quote I feel as though shows “love at first sight” because you see how when she came off of that elevator his whole demeanor changed.

I would recommend it because the book it teaches you a lot of lesson in life. It shows you how to take the hero role in a life or death situtation. It shows the ups and downs of life and how it can easily get better. If you like a mystery/ comedy/ romance type of book then this is the book for you…..
