4) As a Costume Designer

As a Costume Designer, I need to do some purchasing, creating, or tailoring for certain costume pieces. I am in charge of the costume team, budget, and time frame for the project. I need to schedule fitting for the actors to wear the costume to make sure they fit them as well as make adjustments if they have criticisms towards it so I can repair or fix the costume to be more adjustable for the actors. The actors and the stagehands will need to make guidelines for the costumes to take proper care of it. If not, I need to replace it within my own money for the budget. For The Crucible play, I need to research and do studies for the outfits when they are placed. What material they are used and what type of fabric is used to create the costumes.

For The Crucible, the play was set in the 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts where their costumes are for women: a tight and figure-hugging full length woolen dress (except in court room), blush and red lips, cotton white collar and cuffs, black woolen shawl, strands of hair falling out of white coif, black leather shoes, a gown worn over the hair, neat, and no jewelry worn. For men: they wore pilgrim clothing, all black except some parts being white, leather shoes, stockings, breeches, and a pilgrim hat.

The Budget for The Crucible costume design will be 300,000 for each costume needing certain rough fabric and the costume maintain to be during the 1600's which will be considered pricey to own and to make to maintain the in character actors need to put up and for their comfortability. The director and I wants the costume to stay the same budget so it won't go over the budget to be more expensive, we need to keep the same accurate budget as possible. The director was helpful with me calculating how much the costume budget will be for the actors to wear in set. It will be spent on most of the main characters and even some background characters who will wear the same thing as the main characters. So the costumes will be an accurate presentation to the historic play we all know of to make it exactly the same designs as it was placed long ago.

My vision as a Costume Designer for The Crucible is to stay accurate on the historic play for the costumes where it could stay black and white for their costumes. But in the act, it will be a lot of yelling and lots of accusations in the court room. The costume may look so simple and not as not as much as extremely appealing to others. But creates a simple costume design that it costs a lot due to the fabric and the texture being very expensive to make or to own.

The Director's vision for the costumes that they want to stay accurate to the play for the actors to wear and wants the costumes to stay fairly accurate for the actor's sizes as possible because if not. It will be considered easy to rip or to tear apart if the actors causes a mistake to ruin the outfit within the budget.

Abigail seems like a nice girl who was gifted to be a good cause for others. But really, she spreads destruction and chaos to others wherever she goes and does.
Abigail's costume will stay the same throughout the plays act 1 through act 4, some can be adjusted like any dirt or anything parts of the costume when a certain scene causes the costume to look different. The director requested to add some dark red instead of being just black like some of the costumes to try to make Abigail William's costume to look important throughout the acts to represent more of a rude character based on the color outfit.

He made a sin where he has an affair with Abigail Williams.
His costume will change in a different Act that will cause his clothes to change. Me and the director agreed that the color scheme and the outfit for John is perfect for the actor to wear to show gratitude on the outside. But very nasty in the inside for what he had done since dark green is an ugly color.

As a Costume Designer for being the leader, I had to coordinate and talk to the actors and the director of how they wanted for the costumes to be. Comfortably and more on the good fabric I need, I talked to certain several team groups behind the production about the budget we needed. Making sure it is the right amount of money so we don't have to go under or over the budget for being 300,000. Making sure the taxes are paid if purchasing the costumes and as well as going over with the director for how we need to do for the makeup designs onto the actors. Some will have blush, foundation, lipstick, and eyeliner for certain characters to cover up any bumps or even adding dirt or blood makeup for certain types of Acts we need to go over with.
The director will be in charge of taking care of the actors, reminding them that they need to come with me to try out their costumes and apply makeup. I need to ask the actors to give me feedback if they would like to change the makeup or the outfits up to give them more a freer way to move or for comfortably. Some gave me good feedback that they like what I did with their makeup same with their costume designers, but some others gave me different feedback of wanting to change some things like the costumes wanting to be bigger or tighter around their waist. It gave me a lil cost to pay to add more fabric or needing to unsewn the costumes, but overall. Everything went great for their requests and the budget being perfect!

Me and the Director really wanted to stay presently accurate towards The Crucible play, with no twists or anything very of topic for the play. We wanted to share how we can be very colorful with our makeup and costumes with the actors, we did not intend to be a color machine towards the characters since this play was made in a witch renaissance where it looked like it was mainly black and white. But some colors can be added to like dark broad colors. We were colorful to some main characters that we think that really deserved to have like Tabitha and John Proctor. I used mainly rough rich fabric to shine through the play and can look very pretty, luckily. The inside of the texture costumes are very soft for the actors to feel comfortable to talk and move around with. I am glad to see the audience respecting and giving claps throughout the play went something interesting happens or giving shocked faces once someone is "hanged" giving realism. After the play, we got great feedback towards the costumes being so real and very beautiful to look at. Making it look like we really are in The Crucible.

Overall, every single person in the production had a fun time helping with the play and acting through within The Acts. It was a very long play with lots of directions I need to help and put on the costumes and makeup onto the actor, we all agreed we had a hard-working fun time producing The Crucible. I had the best time making the costumes for the actors and giving personal feedback, it can get a tad bit irritating to not getting the right size for the person being too big or too small. But I got through it in the end of getting the right size and right texture for the costumes even if I had to use a bit more money to get the right items. The playwright created a story for me, understanding of why I really like to work with Costume Designing. Like a challenge for me to figure out how will the costumes will look like for the actors to play in The Crucible. Me and the director had a fun time working together and was a very respectful person for me to work on the costume designs for. I learned valuable things for the project and hope to continue more with historic plays to work on next time, hopefully with the same director and actors!

For this project, I will discuss the importance as being a Costume Designer and explaining what shall I do for The Crucible production with the cast and the director themselves. As a Costume Designer, I am in charge of taking care of the costumes and the makeup department to either making the costume or purchasing it, same with designing the makeup on the costume or the actor itself. I make sure I am double-checking if I have all the costumes and the makeup requirements I need to own to put on the actors. I need to tell my director, actors, and more about what I need to do with my costumes with its textures, fabric, cotton, and more to purchase a full costume or to buy certain fabric to make the costume within the budget.
The play I will be covering is The Crucible, one of my favorite plays to watch and read during high school. It is about a witch trial set in the 1600's and it is not afraid of showing people dying, a lot of set drama same with how to trial goes. I am fascinated within the costume designs I have watched in plays, I am very appalled of how much work the other Costume Designers did with the actors outfits.
For my vision for being a Costume Designer in The Crucible will be a tint of colorful outfits, but will be mainly very "bland" since the 1600's play. Does not have the best fits for women and men in my opinion, but I personally like how simple an outfit can be can work very well in a drama felt play. But I really like how the costume designs work in the play, simple but yet effective. The vision I would like in the play will be a saturated dark play, mainly black and white with a tint of beige. Some characters will shine in color like John and Tituba because they both have interesting personalities that will take affect in the play.
The reason why I would like this type of vision in the play because how dark The Crucible will be further onto the acts, it includes murder and considered "witchcraft". Hanging is involved with the play and how much a lying skank Abigail becomes within the act. Which is why I kept some characters having bland coloring and some black and white clothing to respect the atmosphere.
