Volary, Czechia

Volary, Czechia(Czechoslovakia in the book) was close to the German border, and its importance was that it was known as the Volary Death March. The Volary Death March was where jewish girls were forced to march to their death, and were accompanied by SS German soldiers who would kill them if they grew too ill or could not walk to continue the journey to where they would be executed. If I was in Volary, during the death march as Gerda and many others were, I think I would have given up and would've wanted to be shot or commit suicide. I say this because not only was this journey very long, it also offered, little to no hope for the girls who remained because all around them, day in and day out, they saw death, and ill treatment of their peers. Examples of this location, in reference to the text, can be found on page 208.
