Students will place the rubberband around the box and then place one pen under the rubberband and then place the other pen about 3-4 inches away.  The students will then flutter the rubberband space between the two pens while  moving the second pen.  They will pay attention to the various sounds the rubberband makes as the pen travels away from the other pen. 

Questions: Why does moving the pen affect the sound?  Will the sound be louder or softer the further away the pens are? How would the sound differ if the pens were both moving away from each other at the same time?

Exploring Gases with pop rocks
Materials
12 oz bottle of soda
kitchen funnel
bag of pop rocks
8 in. round balloon
Place the balloon on the funnel.
Pour the pop rocks in the balloon.
Shake the balloon so the candy falls to the bottom.
Stretch the balloon over the mouth of the bottle.
Lift the balloon so the candy falls into the bottle. Listen for the popping sound as the gas releases.

4. Point the light bulb towards the top of the balloon close to the place where you rubbed the balloon on the top of your head.
5. Move the balloon back and forth quickly over the light bulb. Do not touch the balloon to the bulb.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6.
