Not just for entertainment and relaxation, but music can influence peoples mind good or bad. Two genres of music in the Caribbean are Soca and Dancehall. One such Soca song is ‘Far From Finished’ by a Trinidadian artiste Voice which was released in 2016 and won the Soca Monarch Title. Besides the fact that the song is popular because of its music, the song also sends a message that a young person can come from nothing to something. The artiste shares his own life experience to motivate others. ‘I never had the money, never had nice living, and mama say, "oh, you could have it all" Just work hard for yours, A say mama, you know, I'll work hard for sure.’ The singer mentions that he was not well off before but with hard work and dedication he can attain his goals. He also continues to sing that with his hard work and commitment, now he can do what well off people do which is fly to other countries and see things that he wasn’t able to see before. Finally, he continues to say that he is ‘far from finished’ which shows that he will keep working towards bigger achievements. This song sends an inspirational message to people who are not of high standard and wishes to work hard to attain their goals. Another song ‘Clarks’ sung by the artiste Vybz Kartel is a song which rates up the brand of shoes named Clarks. This song became popular because of the message that the artiste spread throughout the song which rates up Clarks shoes. This influenced people to want to own a Clarks as this brand name quickly came back in fashion where it sold out in stores. By getting these shoes, this makes people feel like they belong because it has become the norm.

 Bonded white labor was where  white laborers pledged themselves against a debt or loan through their services and time while chattel slaves were personal property of their owners and were bought and sold and were only considered free when they purchase themselves or when they are freed by their owners. Chattel Slavery differed from traditional West African Slavery because the slaves in Africa were known to be well fed and treated better. Slaves in West Africa even owned slaves themselves. Slaves in Africa might work within their master’s household as domestic servants or as agricultural labourers while others were sent to work in the gold mines of West Africa. In Chattel slavery however, slaves were treated as a piece of property with no rights to be owned and sold. In chattel slavery, the enslaved Africans were slaves for life continuing with their children and grandchildren (Charles Fitzgerald, 2000). Mixed individuals called mulattoes, due to intermit relations between Europeans and African slaves, did benefit from their colour as they were granted education, legal status and land ownership.

  In 1492, Christopher Columbus rediscovered the Caribbean. He did not discovered the Caribbean because there were already settlers before his arrival. The first peoples can be classified as Paleo, Meso and Neo Indians. Christopher Columbus described the Neo Indians as savages however the Neo Indian were a sophisticated civilization with a political and social structure. They also understood economics to an extent as they would trade among other islands. The Neo Indians had advance agricultural techniques used for crops which in some parts of the world are still used today as well as there is evidence to support the use of technology such as stones, wood, bones and pottery. The Neo Indians also had a religion in which they believed in animism and ancestral workshop. Thought the Neo Indian had a civilization, Christopher Columbus with his Eurocentric mindset saw the Neo Indians as being inferior and believed his civilization as being superior. Due to the Eurocentric views of the Spanish they did not recognized the Neo Indians as people and imposed there version of what a civilization should be.
