Youth In Mission

Youth In Mission is a mandatory program for students in UPH College that takes place in September 16-20 2024, around 5 day time frame. It's objective is to be a blessing to those less fortunate, which is done through services in various different locations throughout the country. YIM is divided to two options for the students: Personal Mission, which is a service done in the JABODETABEK territory. Mission trip, which is outside of Personal Missions range and the location covers 38 cities and 16 provinces. I chose personal mission, servicing two orphanages.

Personal Mission Day 1

After weeks of preparing our activities and proposals, the day has finally come for us to commence our Personal Mission. Me and my group arrived at UPHC in the morning to make final preperations, then we headed off to our first location which was an orphanage in Cikareng. When we arrived, we started off with light activities and games so the children there can get to know us better. It is safe to say that day 1 was a success.

Personal Mission Day 2

On the second day of our Personal Mission, we did the same thing as yesterday. Gathered at UPHC at 11 AM to make preperations and headed off to the same location for day 2. At that day, we have many plans for the children there. It starts with education assistance from us, helping them with their schoolwork and assignments along with teaching them. Then, we played volleyball in the evening. It is clear that the children there have warmed up to us.

Personal Mission Day 3

On the third and final day on this orphanage, we decided to give it our all. We did a lot of physical activities and more workshop activities, and from what I can tell, they sure had some fun. We all had some fun, too. The children there said they will be missing us and will never forget us, that I am glad.

Personal Mission Day 4

Fourth day of our Personal Mission, we went to a different orphanage in Depok. This time we had way more people than before in the previous orphanage. There were boys and girls this time. It took us a while to get comfortable but alas, we did. Just like before, we played some games to get them to warm up to us and get them to know us as much as we get to know about them.

Personal Mission Day 5

On the last and final day of our Personal Mission, we went all out once more. We prepared another workshop known as the Tree of Hopes, this is a workshop where the children there write down their hopes and dreams and place it on the tree we made for them, as a reminder and as our gift to them. We also did some physical activities together, then ended the day off with a farewell.

I was a little hesitant at first to do my service, but then I realized that kindness is free. It was a fun experience, but also a meaningful one. Just how much good can change things, small or big as they can be. Anyway, I'll be looking forward for the next Youth In Mission in the coming years. I will choose Mission Trip next time.
