The cause of the tsunami is because of the earthquake that happened before the tsunami. The energy was released by the seafloor. This happened because of the sudden horizontal and vertical thrust in the pacific plate, (one of the biggest plates.) This was caused by a rupture of stretch in the subduction zone. This was a good time to record this because this was one of the biggest tsunami to ever hit Japan. Many different natural disasters can cause an tsunami. These other natural disasters are, earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides. Also when the tsunami hit it make 10 to 12 foot waves in Hawaii.
