-"The 1964 earthquake was the first time people understood that there were places called sub-duction zones that produce these really enormous earthquakes" (Oskin, B).

- In 1964, scientists were starting to discover how the Earth worked and beginning to develop and make sense of technology such as 'seismic graphs'. These scientific advancements help scientists to detect movement taking place on our earth. Being able to detect earths movements provide better warning to such things as earthquakes. Prior, there was no technology to help. Today, we continue to advance in scientific technology, such as computers which help to read important data and cell phones, allowing us to reach people across the world in a matter of seconds. As we continue to advance and improve technology, gives us more power over natural disasters. They help us to better prepare for such occurrences and live more safely (Oskin, B).
