In 1925, the need for a school building for boys and girls was considered. Several projects were presented and on June 10, 1927, the one of the architect Jeroni Martorell i Terrats was accepted. The duration of the works was 18 months, ending in April 1930. At the end of June the remodeling works were completed in 1996. One year later the building was expanded into a dual line school.

It has had several names:  from "Escuela Nacional de niños y niñas" to "Escola Mare de Déu de Montserrat".

The families that are part of this school are of low middle class. The level of studies of most families is medium or low and must be moved out of the population to go to work.

A part of the school population is born in the town, children of immigrants from the second generation, and immigrants from other parts of Spain. There are a large number of students from Morocco, South America and Eastern Europe and to a lesser extent from China and sub-Saharan countries.

The school is considered to be of maximum complexity to be located in disadvantaged social and economic environments.
