The red door family shelter was started by a man named Ray McCleary. Ray was the new minister in Wood green united church located in Leslieville in Toronto. Unfortunately, He passed away in the year, 1967. However, before he had passed away, Ray McCleary saw there were a lot of people that were in need and had decided to help them out. It was a huge success that even after he had passed, the volunteers had decided to continue his work and now they have approximately 22 and more beds, allowing 106 refugees and others to have their stay in the shelter.

Last years revenue and expenses

Due to technical difficulties, the circle graph of the expenses and revenue cannot be shown. But if you click to the website, you will be able to see all the money they have received and spent. In this case, the shelter received the revenue of $6,572,521.00 last year. One thing about this is that 15% of their money was from donors and funding. In addition, it shows that the government had supported at least 84% of their funds. So by looking at that, that can be one of the reasons on why the Red door family shelter should obtain the $5000.

If you scroll to the bottom, you will be able to see the amount of money they had left by the end of the year. By the end of the year, they had left $6,072,654.00. About 86% of the money they had went to charity programs and 5% to fundraising. To have $6,074,654.00 left shows that they are really flexible and money-smart on where their money is used for. Getting the donation of the $5000, they will be able to save more and become a long lasting charity overall.

Lucia was a refugee that had fled from her home country, Kenya, which at that time was having a civil war that was not safe for her or her family. When Lucia and her family moved to Canada, she had lived in a small apartment with her husband and her kids. Due to work, Her husband had to move to Alberta, but due to health reasons, he had to leave and was not able to support his family anymore. Lucia and her family had no choice but to move into the red door family shelter. Luckily, she found many people that supported her and helped her and her family, allowing her to successfully find a new home and live out in the world with her family. Lucia had said that she was extremely grateful for the support and care the red door staffs and volunteers gave her

Personally, I think that the red door family shelter is a very good and purposeful non-profit organization because this charity proves to others that they re truly there to help others who need help and that they are there to help them when they need them. For example, the shelter had decided to focus on women fleeing from domestic violence. They made sure that they have the proper care and treatment for them and the assurance to let the women know they are safe in the shelter.

The Red door family shelter should receive the $5000 because the revenue and the expense prove that they are really good with handling their money and shows that if they receive this money, they will be able to maintain and remain as the shelter they are and maybe improve more on their programs. This can also show that the government does not need to fund more money to them, so that they will be able to do many things on their own. They can also help more families individuals recover and live in a god community after wards.
