the meat industry gives animal haters food, but it leads to pollution. however if everyone was a vegetarian, imagine what would happen to our air supply. We would still have air but there wouldn be a lot of plants. plus, it would be too hard to get people to quit eating meat, and there would be an overopulation of animals.

Vegetarianism will be good but I don't think it would be possible. Humans are so reliant on meat it would be hard to do so. It would do wonder for our environment and it would be good for all of us. However, I don't think that it is very reasonable. I know that I wouldn't want to be a vegetarian.

In my opinion, I'm not willing to give up meat. Quite frankly, most people won't want to. However, I am willing to have less of it. I think that if we remove meat from our diets completely, then there will be a bad consequence sooner or later. If the climate is going to change because the majority of the world's population are meat-eaters, then who is to say that it won't also change if the majority was vegetarian. I think that we can have a stable environment and a healthy lifestyle with the right amount of both meat and vegetables.

It doesn't seem like many more people will quit consuming meat due to that, though. I don't necessarily think that eating meat is a bad thing. Although, there could be a limit put in place to reduce the harm of it. Meat is just too good to some.

I can give up meat, but I'd still like to have a little bit of it. My dad and I went on a vegetarian diet for a year, and it was actually a pretty okay experience. Except that he gave in about a month into it and I kept going. It seems to me that a lot of people like their meat and don't or barely ever plan on giving it up. The truth is Americans like their meat; They live on it. I don't think vegetarianism is possible for everyone, but it could be for some. Only about 6 percent of the US is vegan, and 3.4 percent of the adults in the US are vegetarian. I don't think we can cut down on the meat right away, but maybe if we just eat a little less meat everyday or week, we could get to eating less meat

Referring back to what the video said from yesterday it is a human adaptation over the years to want for food, however only 2% of the population growing vegetables or raising cattle is not good enough to feed the other 98% of people hungry. Its just fact. The fact that we are doing nothing to prevent this is even more upsetting. However in the end if this continues we might just have to rely on vegetables. With the vast population still growing their will be an undeniable end to the great majestic cow. The restaurant with the "provocative nurses and a huge hamburger" that's bigger than my future serving so many customers they are unfortunately , whether the men of this great country believes it or not is making the situation even worse. But on to more pressing and serious matters the population will eventually be forced to become vegetarians, at the rate we are eating beef and meats compared to the rate we are producing both the cow population and our population is coming to a close. However as prices go higher for beef its only natural that lower income families will not be able to eat the beef.

The meat processing factories emit smoke that makes the atmosphere become more filled with the carbon dioxide waste that is within the smoke emitted from these places. This extra carbon dioxide causes global warming. I don't know how it does, but look it up.

I believe that people should be free to do whatever they please to their bodies, but there should be a limit to things that cause environmental damage, such as meat processing. So, either people become vegetarian, or they process their own meat in alternate ways that don't harm the environments.

This will sound very dumb, but think of the animals as humans. We should have had tax on the meat in the first place. If you were slaughtered and sold, you wouldn't want to be sold for only a few bucks. Animals give us meat, they deserve way better. And I wish I would turn vegetarian, but I like the meat too much and I have no problem with paying the taxes. The industry makes the animals out to be soo popular, just so we can eat them. Consuming as much meat as we do as US citizens is eye-opening. Doing this hurts environment by all the animals we have to use to create the meat that we eat. Vegetarianism may work in order for our environment to remain stable so that we can continue to live it. I think that they should put taxes on meat because in doing so, people will realize what a bothersome buying meat with taxes is and will not want to buy excessive amount of meat, thus not overloading their average calorie intake, saving them from harming their body. It also protects the animals ; no worrying about an animal being endangered because people are killing them for their meat. Converting to vegetarianism won't necessarily be the solution to everything, but it does contribute greatly if we're talking about being healthy. The meat industry for example has been modified from just a cattle farm to factories and harmful living conditions for the animals. This is why many people are vegetarian. Livestock in the meat industry drains water and takes up space. It also makes up 15% of greenhouse gases from human activities. If the demand for meat shrinks, then that would decrease the rate of climate change. Putting a small tax on meat and poultry could start this. In my opinion, we don't necessarily need to revert to vegetarianism, we just need to learn how to eat meat in moderation. (The USA consumes twice as much meat as other countries in the world.)

I can see both sides of the argument. I think that it's justifiable to put a tax on meat. Although having a little bit of it isn't too bad, it becomes an issue when you are consuming too much. The proposal itself doesn't sound like a bad idea- except for the fact that you can't stop an industry just like that (plus everyone loves meat (generalization don't attack me)).
If there were a way to not eat meat while eating meat, I'd definitely try it. But there's no way to eat meat without eating meat by killing things that give meat, so I eat meat.

uhhhhhh Im sorry but there are so many health benefits from eating meat and taking away meat from an omnivores diet is not a good idea what so ever. Humans need protein and a lot of it. I honestly couldn't care less about the environment because I'm not gonna be alive when it falls apart it will be my kids' job to fix that. In fact most things that we think are safe for the environment like have electric cars are more harmful than gas cars because while making the the put out 2 times the amount of harmful gasses. The meat industry has gotten out of control over the last few decades, with the increase production of beef and other livestock adding tremendously to the greenhouse gas emissions.
Vegetarianism would significantly reduce this output, but is unlikely to succeed nation/world wide due to human tenancies but we can still reduce this pollution created by the meat industry by promoting the reduction of meat in our diet and using the essences greenhouse gases as fuel. The meat industry is causing a lot of greenhouse gases, and due to their animal cruelty people have started to become vegetarian/vegan. Although the idea of a tax is positive on the overall situation there's no way the meat industry will let the tax pass since it would decrease their sales.

I understand why they want to put taxes on meat but people will still buy meat because many people eat it. So I think taxing meat would help a little but not that much.

Climate change would obviously affect water since it makes up most of the world's surface. Negative effects on water would have terrible impacts on the meat industry due to the amount of water needed to support the livestock and their food. If instead we moved closer to vegetarianism, we could possibly prevent a food shortage caused by less livestock being available. We could use water for growing crops for us to eat instead of giving it to all the animals we later on eat.

I believe this to be a good thing as for it causes people to live long and prosper. On the other hand i feel like the American people wouldn't abide to this new tax as for meat is a sought out food in America. I'm here for a good time, not a long time.

Meat is apart of most of Americans' daily lives. Everyone can't be vegetarian, so taxes on meat would be absurd. Taxing meat won't stop people from eating meat.

I think the meat taxes that people want will cause a protest if it were to happen, they should just let people buy meat normally but if the obesity problem gets even more out of hand then it will be nessecary.Even if the meat taxes were to to be legalized, not everyone woud turn vegan most people would probably just spend the extra money for meat.

it takes a lot more than just putting a tax on meat to get people to stop eating it. you have to change your whole mindset to go vegetarian and most people dont want to do that so they will most likely continue to buy meat despite the tax.

I think even if they taxed meat it will slightly affect how much meat is consumed because its not easy to just reduce the amount of meat people eat daily because its kind of a habit where we cant just stop it. Even if people reduce the amount of meat they will eventually start eating more agricultural foods.

I think though a lot of people wouldnt like it, they d get a lot of money if they put taxes on meat. i think the vegetarians would hope more people will stop eating meat because of it but i doubt it. peoples love for meat its too great that they would stop eating meat cause of a tax, unless the taxes are extremely high then the frequency people buy meat could change. even i want to go eat a triple-bypass burger

people love their steak,choice cuts and beef,once you have a population that has tried a certain type of food, they will either hate it or love it,and meat is something that people love that is why the meat industry is in business and climate change is a very real thing but even if you take a tax and place it on meat,people are still gonna buy it and vegetarianism

No matter what, there will always be people who go against what everyone else is doing. So even if, somehow, we find a way to encourage more people to eat less meat or become vegetarian and make them aware of the environmental consequences of all of it, people will still be stubborn.

Although I do understand why people think this is needed, but personally I believe this will not help. People, meat being in our diets, would likely still continue to buy and eat meat products. It will also become more difficult for those without financial stability to maintain a healthy sustainable diet.

things have been going out of control with food consumption and i can understand why this is happening but people just brush it off until it majorly affects them. i feel like a less catastrophic solution to this would be for people to do what Detroit did(make farms and grew their own food)
