First time I wrote an argument essay, the essay people regard as “the easy one”, I wrote in something like 20 mins. (This is with a lot of practice done in a timed setting though) When the actual exam came around my argument essay took an hour to write but I spend much less time with the “harder” rhetorical essay, due to our annotation practice, and the synthesis essay was done in short time too. Although this is very important if the paper based exam is still going to exist it would not be fair or reasonable to apply the same grading system upon these two exams. It also needs to be taken into consideration that writing 3 essays in an online exam is much more harder than in a paper one so the essay content or quantity must be different. Another difference that will arise is that in the online version it is much more harder to actually interact with the text or the questions and it is almost impossible to annotate them to be able to gain a deeper understanding. Therefore the mcq section on the online version is also a room for improvement. The last thing is the existence of the chance of cheating that exists greatly in the online test. Examining everyone on the online test is impossible and it might be very easy to cheat on certain parts of the exam so this will create an unjust advantage over the people taking the paper exam.
