Kahoot is an interactive game website in which teachers use to collect formative assessment or as a way to engage students in the learning. It is a quiz online that the teacher creates (on a separate web page) or use whatever available on the website as a trivia style questions and answers, then gives students a pin number to use on another web page to play the game. There are interactive simulations for elementary, middle school, high school, and university science topics. You could use these simulation during the Explore part of a lesson. You could also ask students specific explorable questions that can be answered by using the simulations, and their answers would be a form of formative assessment. The simulations could also be used for differentiating instruction/ providing struggling students with extra support.

Computer-based learning programs are very strong resources teachers use to introduce students to real- world problems while they are in classroom. Interactive learning is a very good tool teachers use, especially for science subject to enrich students’ knowledge and skills. Students would be able to visit specific parts of the environments to explore them more fully, to test ideas, and to receive feedback. It connects students with working scientists to collect data to understand global issues. For example Global Lab that includes student researchers from more than 200 schools in 30 countries. In Global Lab classroom students study their local environment by using maps, describe, and monitor their sites, collect and share data, and post their local findings into a broader, global context. Global Lab helps students identify environmental phenomena that can be observed around the world.

https://stltestlab.com/testing-laboratories.htm?keyword=environmental%20laboratories&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhPfkBRD0ARIsAAcYycGOQwjYaZr54PiPnfRn9Azosiy51JNhh4Gw07Mnqo8Ctdywz_nfVUMaAl_8EALw_wcB

It is a phonics and reading game where students create their own monster and complete various reading and phonics activities tasks with their monster. Students progress through different levels and are able to customize their monster during their progression through the game. The computer version of the game is completely free. I believe there is a teacher section where you can check in on student progress. When I worked in first-grade for three years, we had our students playing this game and they loved it.

Lesson plans, emails, grade level meetings, grading papers, delivering instruction, classroom management and don’t forget communicating with parents - it can all be a precarious juggling act. But one ball you don’t want to drop is that of parent communication. Bloomz is an App that can help streamline that task. It is a free App that allows teachers to keep parents up to date about what’s happening in their child’s classroom. Teachers’ control who’s allowed to join the classroom via the App and this ensures that communication remains private. Parents join, and can start getting notifications in real time. Parents who choose not to sign up for an account will still be able to receive updates through emails. Bloomz has the capability of letting teachers allow students the opportunity to build a portfolio of their work in order to share their progress with parents throughout the school year. It even has a behavior management component that can help reinforce positive behavior. Teachers can save time and manage a host of tasks all in one place. Follow the link and check out Bloomz for yourself: https://www.bloomz.net/

Seesaw is a great tool for students and teachers to have in the classroom, and parents to see what their children are doing. It is basically an online portfolio, where students take pictures of work and even mark up work that they have done and store it online in their profile. The cool and meaningful thing is that with the work that is uploaded, students get the chance to explain their work. So the teacher and parent have the explanation of how the child came about their work to go hand in hand with the work. Having that explanation portion in addition to the work allows for students to think critically about what they have done and really come to an understanding. I like that it allows teachers and parents to get an inside look at the child's thinking in a way that they may not get to with just having a conversation.

An educational technology tool I think would be very beneficial to incorporate in the classroom is Prezi.com. Creating and presenting presentations is a great way to engage students in their own learning and using PowerPoint for every presentation can be very boring. Prezi is the website that can be utilized to make presentations more engaging and fun for students. There are so many different templates to choose from and students can really let their creativity flourish with the tool. Students can even post their presentations on their accounts and make their work public to share with their fellow students. Prezi is easy to use and I believe upper elementary through high school students can all benefit from this website.

Quizlet is an online resource used as a study tool for many students. Students can use quizlet to make flashcards which are then applied to their studying as a resource. The flashcard sets can be studied by playing games, taking tests, and shared with many other students. The flashcard sets can be written in 18 languages. Many students benefit by using quizlet because it helps save time when making the sets. It is also helpful because it keeps the student organized and the sets will always be available. Students can also mark the set they need to memorize by starring them.

https://quizlet.com/

Socrative is an educational tool for fun and effective formative assessment in the classroom. It enables you to engage and assess students from any device in the classroom with responses being sent directly to the teacher in real time. Teachers can create quizzes, questions, exit tickets and more. Teachers launch them from their dashboard choosing multiple choice, true or false, or short answer formats. The results of the quizzes are broken down by question, showing how each student performed on each question. This allows you to know which concepts need to be reviewed. Teachers can create classrooms with different activities, the students access by typing in a code. There is also a racing quiz bowl assessment where the students compete against each other, moving forward after answering a question correctly. Students could compete individually or in groups. Teachers can also pull up exit tickets quickly. Any assessment you create on the app can be saved to a library to use again. You can also share assessment you create with other Socrative users.

https://socrative.com/
