Two-party Systems

A two party system is a political system where there are 2 political parties that take charge of the politics, often waxing in who holds the power. The United States is the most prominent example because they have a Republican party and a Democratic party. There are many strengths in this system, such as stability, simplicity and easy access for voters. A disadvantage is the other viewpoints are not represented enough. The Democratic Party is left leaning, and they advocate for stopping climate change and healthcare reform. The Republican is more conservative and does not support those things as much. Another system in the US is the Electoral system, which is based on the Electoral College for all elections, but they only really represent these 2 parties which makes it difficult for other smaller therapies to gain followers. These parties are pretty centralized, and they have major influence.

Multiparty systems

Multiparty systems are multiple political parties competing for the most power in a specific government. No one party holds more power or majority of power rather than others, which leads to equal representation. In India, there are many parties being represented because they all represent different ideologies and ideas. Some of the parties are the Indian National Congress (the hand) , which represents socialist policies, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (the lotus) which represents pro-market reforms. There are strengths in this system like its ability to accommodate a wide range of viewpoints and offer representation for many diverse groups. Some disadvantages are the fragmented decision making which can make it innefficient. India's Electoral system is the first-past-the-post Electoral system, which represents larger systems more than smaller ones. Some of these parties preform in a more decentralized manner, while some have very strong leadership.
