FMA UT alum and current COM adjunct professor, Adi Sudhakaran, will be speaking with acclaimed filmmaker, Ira Sachs live this Saturday at Screen Door Microcinema about his brand new, steamy, unrated, film 
PASSAGES. 

What seems to be central in Ira Sachs’ films is a recurring motif of a triangle. The New York based filmmaker who has long been at the forefront of American Independent cinema, often examines the subtleties and tensions in queer relationships, modern romance, as well as the experience of being alone. 

His latest feature film, Passages stars Franz Rogowski, Ben Whishaw, and Adèle Exarchopoulos in a steamy love triangle all about desire and want that slowly eats away at everyone involved.

Tomas (Rogowski) is a filmmaker who comes home to his husband, Martin (Wishaw) one morning with an unconvincing explanation of his unexpected one-night stand with a woman. He confesses that he may have fallen in love with her, an elementary school teacher named Agathe (Exarchopoulos). Each point of the love triangle reveals a sharp edge, where all three characters have a certain amount of power as well as amount of need. Ragowski plays Tomas as an indelible force that rocks the emotional stakes for the entire duration of the film - tying together another common thread in Sachs filmography in his fondness for observing men who behave poorly. The suspense appears in the unexpected shift of these character’s lives, everyone wants something they necessarily cannot have, and it’s this tension between choices and desire that makes for great cinema that you cannot miss. 

With his latest film, Ira Sachs explores with liberty the kind of images he wants to create and present. These images are at times provocative but tender and deeply personal to the filmmaker while being able to celebrate the cinema of duration in exploring queer relationships that is not quite as visible in mainstream cinema today.

The 100VOF program was started by Florida born-and-raised sisters who teamed up and built this around our goal is to highlight how diverse Florida’s creative voices are. We welcome all levels of experience.

• Experience animating UI for shipped titles or completed personal projects

• Excellent written and verbal communication

• Familiarity with Supergiant's titles, especially Hades; general interest in video games

Compensation: We are open to a range of experience for this position, and will offer commensurate compensation. For those earlier in their careers at the Associate level (approx. 1-3 years experience), we offer $40/hr; while for those at Senior Advanced (approx. 12+ years experience) level, we offer $90/hr, with the range applying to experience levels in between. Our expectation is that more-experienced candidates would be able to deliver high quality first-pass work more often, requiring fewer revisions, and that such candidates may be more involved in the technical integration of their work as well.

Sara Fuller Student Scholarship has been established to mentor young people entering the field of Film & Television. 

One individual will be selected to receive a Sara Fuller Student Scholarship for $1000. The award will be directly applied to a student majoring in either film or TV production. The Scholarship is made possible by Film Florida & Women in Film Florida members.

Eligibility and Selection

Applicants must be residents of Florida and have a strong interest in film or video. Previous experience in film or video production is preferred but not required. Enrollment in school at the time of application is required.

Priority will be given to those who have demonstrated a high degree of commitment in their studies so far, and who clearly articulate their future goals in film. 

A panel of professional filmmakers and Film Florida & WIFT-FL family members will review scholarship applications. Finalists may be called for personal interviews. Scholarship winners will be asked to attend the Annual Jingle Mingle even to be held on December 5, 2024.

The Sara Fuller Student Scholarship was created to recognize organizations supporting Film Education. The program’s namesake, Sara Fuller, was a true pioneer in Florida’s Production Industry, and this scholarship honors her memory by supporting future filmmakers and encouraging excellence in motion picture education.

Dana Corrigan is a professor of Animation at the University of Tampa, who has taught at the college level since 2011. GVS, or the Greek Variety Show, is the last event that serves as the finale of Greek Week each year. At this event, each team performs an up to 8-minute routine of dancing, acting, and more to tell a story of their team’s specific theme. At the end of this event, fundraising totals are announced, along with the overall winners of GVS and Greek Week.

Emil Jannings (The Last Laugh, Faust, Othello), the quintessential German expressionist actor, stars as Professor Rath, the sexually repressed instructor of a boys' prep school. After learning of the pupils' infatuation with French postcards depicting a local nightclub songstress, he decides to personally investigate the source of such indecency. But as soon as he enters the shadowy Blue Angel nightclub and steals one glimpse of the smoldering Lola-Lola (Marlene Dietrich), commanding the stage in top hat, stockings, and bare thighs, Rath's self-righteous piety is crushed. He finds himself fatefully seduced by the throaty voice of the vulgar siren, singing "Falling In Love Again." Consumed by desire and tormented by his rigid propriety, Professor Rath allows himself to be dragged down a path of personal degradation.

The film will be introduced by Dr. Kaia Magnusen, Assistant Professor of Art and Design at the University Tampa. Magnusen specializes in European and American modern art, especially interwar German and American art, and international contemporary art.

This 8-day intensive studio course will introduce the expansive possibilities of the animated film through a series of exercises in optical toy design, cameraless animation, drawn, cut-out, 2D and 3D lens-based animation techniques as well as an extended final project fo. Film Tampa Bay has partnered with Stage 32, a leading online education platform for film and television professionals, to launch the Production Assistant Master Certification Program! We’re searching for candidates to participate in this exciting opportunity at no cost.

This program is designed to equip aspiring filmmakers with industry-critical skills.

• Film Requirements

  • Maximum runtime: 5 minutes

  • Films must be shot entirely in Florida

  • Films must be written, shot, and edited during the 10-day challenge window

  • Each team will receive:

    • A Florida-themed creative prompt

    • A required line of dialogue

    • A required prop

  • All films will be featured on Film Florida TV

  • Winners will be compiled into an Award Show Video which will also be hosted on Film Florida TV
